An altercation on a Lawrence city bus Wednesday ended with knives being pulled and one arrest being made, according to Lawrence police.

A little after 5:30 p.m. officers were called to the 2400 block of Venture Park Drive for reports of a disturbance with weapons on a bus. When officers arrived on scene, no active disturbance was occurring, but two individuals were identified as being involved, according to Sgt. Drew Fennelly, a spokesman for LPD. A 37-year-old man reported that after a verbal disagreement had occurred on the bus, a 50-year-old man brandished a knife. The younger man said he then produced his own knife, but the argument did not escalate any further.

The suspect, Timothy Michael Foust, of Lawrence, was arrested on suspicion of attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with that crime on Thursday, and bond was set at $4,000 cash or surety. Foust is still on supervised probation related to a conviction for criminal damage to property in March.

Foust has been charged twice before with aggravated assault with a knife — once in October 2023 on a law enforcement officer and once in January of this year — but those charges were dismissed.
