One killed, one criticaly injured in late-night crash on South Lawrence Trafficway

UPDATED 3:10 p.m. Saturday

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed one person and critically injured another in southwest Lawrence on Friday night.

Douglas County deputies, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical and Consolidated Fire District No. 1 were called to the 384-mile marker on U.S. Highway 40, also known as the South Lawrence Trafficway or Kansas Highway 10, at 10:29 on Friday night.

Radio traffic from arriving firefighters reported two vehicles with heavy damage and one person trapped inside a vehicle. One person died at the scene.

On Saturday morning the Highway Patrol announced 41-year old Michael T. Dieker of Kansas City, Missouri, died from his injuries. The Journal-World learned subsequently that the victim used the name Louise ImMasche.

Also announced Saturday, Eliseo J. Munoz, 23 and of Lawrence, suffered serious injuries and was in a Kansas City metro hospital.

The KHP said Munoz was westbound in a Chevrolet Tahoe on U.S. 40 and ImMasche was heading eastbound when Munoz’s vehicle went left of center and struck ImMasche’s Kia Forte head on.
