Emergency crews responded to a call around 5 a.m. Sunday regarding a fire that had affected two homes in southeastern Lawrence. No injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to rescue two cats.

The homes, to which about 20 firefighters responded, are at 2808 and 2812 Lankford Drive.

Firefighters found two cats in one of the homes. The pets were given supplemental oxygen at the scene.

The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
