A Lawrence man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly brandished a firearm during a fight on Massachusetts Street.

A Lawrence Police patrol sergeant witnessed an altercation around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the breezeway on the east side in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street, said Sgt. Drew Fennelly with the Lawrence Police Department. Additional officers responded to the area and made contact with everyone believed to be involved.

During the fight, a 22-year-old man allegedly displayed a handgun and threatened people, Fennelly said. Police later recovered a handgun from a nearby vehicle.

A 19-year-old man was examined at the scene by medical crews for minor injuries sustained in the fight, but the man was not taken to the hospital, Fennelly said.

The suspect, Sage Allen Meyer, 22, of Lawrence, was later booked into the Douglas County Jail and has been charged in Douglas County District Court with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He is being held as of Monday morning without bond and is scheduled for a first appearance on Monday afternoon.
