Crash late Saturday causes power outage in some parts of Lawrence

A one-vehicle crash in Lawrence briefly knocked out power to some areas late Saturday night, and the driver is being investigated on suspicion of DUI, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokesman George Diepenbrock said in a release that the vehicle was traveling eastbound in the 1400 block of North 1300 Road at about 10:25 p.m. when it left the roadway and struck a sign and power pole, causing a power outage in the area.

Diepenbrock said the driver, a 57-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, was being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence. He said the man was taken to a hospital after the crash.

No outages were listed for the area on Evergy’s outage map Sunday afternoon.
