Crews fighting grass fire; part of U.S. 40 reopens after temporary closure

Part of U.S. Highway 40 west of Lawrence was closed Friday, March 15, 2024, due to a grass fire in the area.

U.S. Highway 40 was closed from East 700 Road to Kanwaka Corner west of Lawrence as fire crews worked in the area to put out a grass fire, according to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 3 p.m. Friday. The highway reopened shorty after 4:30 p.m.
