Police looking for suspect after 18-year-old dies from gunshot wound

An 18-year-old man died early Wednesday morning from a gunshot wound, and Lawrence police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in the shooting.

The shooting occurred in the 2900 block of Crestline Drive around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a post from the Lawrence Police Department on social media around 1 a.m. Police later identified the victim as Lawrence resident Davin Gregory Kerr.

The 18-year-old was taken to a Kansas City area trauma center with life-threatening injuries, the post said.

Police updated the post at 6:15 a.m. and said that he had died from his injuries.

Police are looking for 21-year-old Dawson Edward Paine. They ask for anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Paine to call 911. Paine should be considered armed and dangerous, and no one should try to approach or contact him other than law enforcement. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at (785)843-TIPS (8477).

At a brief news conference on Wednesday afternoon, police indicated that the victim and suspect knew each other and “were together socially last night.”
