An Israeli flag is seen after being cut from its flagpole at a Jewish fraternity on KU's campus on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023. The flag was found ripped up about a block away from the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
Lawrence police were investigating Monday after an Israeli flag was cut down from a flagpole at a Jewish University of Kansas fraternity.
Officers responded to a report of vandalism Sunday night at the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity on the KU campus, according to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department on Monday evening.
The fraternity had an Israeli flag and an American flag hanging on its flagpole, but the Israeli flag was found ripped up about a block away Sunday, the post said. The American flag was still attached to the cut rope that was on the flag pole but was lying on the ground.
“LKPD is concerned enough about the nature of the crime to forward the report from the Patrol Unit to our Investigations Division,” the post said.
Investigators returned to the house on Monday to collect additional evidence and the department will release new information as it becomes available, the post said.
Police encourage anyone with information about the incident to call dispatch at 785-832-7509 or Douglas County CrimeStoppers at 785-843-8477.
