Lawrence police respond to a shooting in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
An anonymous tip has led Lawrence police to more evidence in a shooting on Wednesday night that sent a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but law enforcement is still seeking more information and asking for the public’s help.
As the Journal-World reported, police responded to the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road just before 7 p.m. Wednesday and found a man on the scene who’d been shot. However, police said the shooting itself did not take place in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road. Instead, Lawrence Police Sgt. Drew Fennelly said Wednesday that the man arrived on the scene in a vehicle, and officers were still trying to determine where the crime had actually occurred.
On Thursday, Fennelly told the Journal-World that the department got a tip that led to The Rockland Apartments, 1301 W. 24th St., where officers found evidence of a possible crime scene that might be connected to the shooting. The Rockland is a few blocks away from where the man was found.

“Crime scene technicians were able to process the scene and collect forensic evidence that would have been otherwise lost in today’s (rainy) weather,” Fennelly said.
Fennelly said anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or has video footage of something suspicious between 6 and 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Rockland Apartments should call dispatch at 785-832-7509 or Crime Stoppers at 785-843-8477 or submit a tip at crimestoppersdgco.com.
Fennelly also said Thursday that the man who was shot was still in stable condition at an area hospital.
