An 82-year old man drove across a field and into a creek near the intersection of Kansas Highways 40 and 32 on Thursday morning, and the Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating whether alcohol was involved in the accident.

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash just before 11 a.m. and found that the man was not injured, sheriff’s office spokesperson George Diepenbrock said in an email to the Journal-World.

The man, who was driving a white Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling westbound on Highway 32 around 11 a.m. and left the roadway, going south into the ditch just before the Highway 40 intersection and across a field before coming to a stop with the nose of his vehicle in the creek bed, said Major Steve Buchholz with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. No other vehicles were believed to be involved, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. Buchholz said “KHP is investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor or not.”
