A Lawrence man was sentenced Wednesday to just over three years in prison for recklessly firing a gun and possessing a gun within 10 years of being convicted of a felony.
Tino James White, 39, entered a no contest plea in February to one felony count of criminal discharge of a firearm and one felony count of possession of a firearm, according to court records. The charges are in connection with an incident on Aug. 23, 2022, in the 1300 block of East 25th Terrace.
Judge Sally Pokorny sentenced White on Wednesday to 29 months for the firearm charge and 8 months for the possession charge and ordered those sentences to run consecutively for a total of 37 months in prison. During the hearing, White apologized to the court.
White’s plea agreement resolved four cases dating back to 2021. In those cases, he was charged with felony burglary, felony theft, two counts of felony possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor criminal damage, according to charging documents. Those charges were dismissed with prejudice as part of the agreement, meaning the charges cannot be refiled.
White was previously convicted in Douglas County of felony attempted aggravated robbery and felony aggravated battery with a weapon in 2016 and felony burglary of a vehicle in 2015 and 2005, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.
