Police have identified the victim of a weekend homicide in Lawrence as a 20-year-old Topeka man, but investigators still need the public’s help in apprehending a suspect, according to a news release Wednesday from the Lawrence Police Department.

The victim, who police said had been shot twice, once in the chest, is Cameron Renner.

Several calls came into dispatch just after 1 a.m. Saturday reporting the sound of gunshots in the area of 24th and Cedarwood. Officers arrived on scene and began speaking to witnesses but found no victim, police said.

Officers also witnessed a car speeding into the Emergency Department at the local hospital. Officers pulled a male victim from the back seat, who was later pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.

“Evidence leads us to believe that more witnesses than those who’ve come forward have vital information in the case,” police said in the release Wednesday.

People with information about the homicide can remain anonymous by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 785-843-TIPS.
