A Lawrence man who allegedly brandished a gun at his former employer’s business before police used a stun gun to arrest him was charged Tuesday in Douglas County District Court with criminal threat and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Marquis Deshan Lee, 48, was being held on a $500,000 bond after his arrest on Friday afternoon. Witnesses at a business in the 1100 block of Horizon Drive reported to police just before 1 p.m. Friday that a man had come into the business, made threatening remarks, showed them a gun, then left after seeing that a woman he believed was responsible for his termination was not there.
He was arrested later that afternoon at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Coventry Manor. Police said that Lee resisted arrest, that an officer deployed a Taser to take him into custody and that they found a gun they believed was used in the incident.
On Tuesday, Lee’s bond was reduced to a $2,500 own-recognizance bond, meaning he was not required to put down any money to be released from jail but could be charged that amount if he fails to appear in court. Lee was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device upon his release, according to the jail’s booking log.
Lee was formally charged with one felony count of criminal threat and one felony count of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, according to charging documents. The firearm charge alleges that Lee was convicted of a felony within the last three years. It was not immediately clear, however, what the conviction was for or where it occurred.
Lee is being represented by defense attorney Nicholas Hayes and is next scheduled to appear in court on March 8 for a status conference.
