A Lawrence man has been charged in Douglas County District Court after allegedly brandishing pepper spray, refusing to leave LMH Health and threatening to return with a gun to shoot people at the hospital.
The man, Jay Dean Jameson, 66, faces one felony count of criminal threat, two misdemeanor counts of battery and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespassing, according to charging documents.
Police responded just after 8 p.m. Monday to a report of a man who was refusing to leave the hospital after the man had an altercation with a 34-year-old male staff member, said Sgt. Drew Fennelly with the Lawrence Police Department.
During the altercation, Jameson is alleged to have brandished a can of pepper spray and to have threatened to return to the hospital to shoot multiple people. The hospital staff member struggled with Jameson over the pepper spray, and Jameson allegedly struck the staff member with multiple knee strikes, Fennelly said. No injuries were reported, and Jameson was arrested without further incident.
Jameson is being held at the Douglas County Jail, and a bond had not been set as of noon Tuesday.
