A Lawrence man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred outside of a nightclub in rural Douglas County on New Year’s Day.
Daequan Jermaine Rayton, 24, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service early Friday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Rayton was transferred to the Douglas County Jail, where he was booked around 12:45 a.m. on suspicion of aggravated battery and attempted first-degree murder. He is currently being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond, according to the booking log.
As the Journal-World previously reported, sheriff’s deputies received a report about 3:15 a.m. Jan. 1 of a shooting at the Outhouse in the 1800 block of North 1500 Road. Spokesman George Diepenbrock said the sheriff’s office suspected that a man was shot during an altercation in the Outhouse parking lot and was taken by a private vehicle to an area hospital for treatment.
Officers with the Lawrence Police Department later recovered the suspect’s vehicle, Diepenbrock said. The Eudora Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
