Defendant Dominique J. McMillon confers with his appointed attorney, J.C. Gilroy, on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, during the second day of the preliminary hearing for himself and two other men who were charged in an October 2017 triple homicide on Massachusetts Street.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver who died in a wreck on the Farmers Turnpike Friday night as John C. Gilroy, a 64-year-old Lawrence attorney.
Gilroy, known as J.C. in the community, was driving westbound on North 1800 Road, aka the Farmers Turnpike, around 6 p.m. on Friday when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. Gilroy was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead, said George Diepenbrock, a spokesman with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was Cassidy Goering, of Fairview, Kansas. Goering was examined at the scene for injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening, Diepenbrock said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Diepenbrock said.
