First responders work a vehicle accident near the Kansas River bridge north of Eudora on April 18, 2022.

A vehicle accident near the Kansas River bridge just north of Eudora has caused first responders to close that connection between Douglas and Leavenworth counties.

Multiple fire trucks and law enforcement vehicles were lined up along 222nd Street in Leavenworth County on the north side of the bridge. An air ambulance was called to the scene, and a pair of Leavenworth County sheriff’s deputies on the scene confirmed crews were working a vehicle accident near the bridge.

At about 5:50 p.m., they did not have information to share on the seriousness of injuries related to the accident, or when the bridge may reopen to traffic.

The bridge closure was causing a multitude of motorists to take a significant detour to cross the Kansas River. The Eudora bridge is the only Kansas River crossing between Lawrence and De Soto.
