Eudora man killed in single-vehicle wreck in Leavenworth County

A 32-year-old Eudora man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck, in which the vehicle became engulfed in flames, in rural Leavenworth County.

Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office deputies and fire crews responded to the wreck around 7:30 p.m. Friday near the 11600 block of 222nd Street, also known as County Road No. 1, just north of Eudora, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. When they arrived, they found a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 truck “fully engulfed in flame with one occupant” in the vehicle.

After an investigation, the deputies determined the driver was traveling north on 222nd Street when he went off the road to the east. He then overcorrected and veered off the road on the west side, which resulted in the vehicle crashing into a tree north of Alexander Road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office did not identify the man in the news release.
