Lawrence police and firefighters responded to a scene Friday morning at the corner of Eighth and Vermont streets, where a man allegedly shattered at least three windows in a downtown business.

A 31-year-old man was taken into police custody Friday morning after he allegedly shattered at least three windows in a downtown business.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the southeast corner of Eighth and Vermont streets, where the office of Paul Werner Architects is located. Multiple police vehicles responded to the scene, and officers were seen arresting a man and placing him in a police car. Various items from a garbage bag were strewn throughout the intersection, and glass from multiple windows littered the sidewalks.

Witnesses at the scene said the man was yelling and kicked in the ground-level windows. People were inside the office at the time and called the police.

The man was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal damage to property, according to Patrick Compton, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department. The man appeared to have no association with the business, Compton said.
