A Lawrence man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly striking someone on purpose with his vehicle.
Police arrested Aaron D. Alberty, 39, on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.
Lt. David Ernst of the Lawrence Police Department told the Journal-World that officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Graystone Drive around 1:15 a.m. for a report of a man attempting to hit two people with his vehicle, striking one of them. The man also allegedly rammed his vehicle into one of the people’s cars.
When officers arrived, the person who was struck appeared to suffer from minor injuries. Alberty had left the scene before police arrived, but was later located and arrested near the Clinton Parkway and Crossgate Drive intersection.
Alberty made his first appearance Thursday in court, where a judge set a $25,000 cash or surety bond, according to court records. As of 5 p.m., he was still in custody at the Douglas County Jail.
