A 41-year-old Lawrence woman is dead as the result of a homicide, according to Lawrence police.

Police learned of a possible homicide when they were contacted by Topeka police Wednesday, LPD spokesperson Patrick Compton said.

In an unrelated investigation, Topeka PD learned that a Lawrence man may have been involved in the recent killing of a woman in Lawrence, Compton said.

Officers found Jennifer Marie Mosby dead in her residence in the 800 block of Kentucky Street on Wednesday, according to a news release from LPD.

Johnathon Lee West, 43, was in custody of Shawnee County on Thursday pending a transfer to Douglas County on suspicion of second-degree murder, the news release states. LPD has submitted the case to the Douglas County district attorney’s office for charging consideration.

Police are not releasing the cause of Mosby’s death pending the outcome of an autopsy, Compton said.

“We are not seeking any other suspects at this time, and we extend our thanks to the Topeka Police Department for their assistance in this investigation,” the release stated.
