A Lawrence man was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he caused an injury car crash while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police were dispatched to the area of Clinton Parkway and Wakarusa Drive just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lawrence Police Department spokesman Patrick Compton said via email Wednesday morning.

A gray Chevrolet Sonic had rear-ended a blue Pontiac Vibe, which in turn struck an orange Jeep Renegade that had apparently been stopped at the red light, Compton said. A juvenile passenger in the Chevrolet Sonic was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Sonic, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, aggravated child endangerment and aggravated battery DUI, Compton said.

As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the man was being held without bond in the Douglas County Jail, according to the jail’s online booking log. He has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
