Story updated at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday:

An 18-year-old University of Kansas student was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to local law enforcement.

The man was arrested after a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children prompted the Lawrence Police Department to execute a search warrant at his KU dorm with the assistance of KU Public Safety, LPD spokesman Patrick Compton said via email Wednesday.

Compton said the man was arrested as a result of the evidence obtained in that search. The man is suspected of being in possession of child pornography, and he was arrested at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the downtown Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.

As of just before noon Wednesday, Compton said juvenile investigators continued to look into the incident.

A spokeswoman for KU confirmed via email Wednesday morning that the man is enrolled as a student this semester.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the man was being held without bond at the jail, according to the booking log.

“If you have information about cyber-crimes against children, file a CyberTip with National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at report.cybertip.org or call 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678),” Compton wrote. He said CyberTips are confidential.
