A fire Wednesday afternoon displaced three people, destroyed a rural Eudora home and all its contents and, as of Thursday afternoon, continued to smolder.
Eudora Township Fire Chief Mike Baxter said firefighters were called to the home in the 1900 block of North 1100 Road at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday. They did not leave until 10 p.m., then had to return, working from around 11:30 p.m. until 4 a.m.
As of 1:50 p.m. Thursday, crews were still at the scene as the fire had rekindled, Baxter said. Emergency radio traffic indicated that smoke had become visible again around 12:25 p.m.
The American Red Cross is assisting the three residents who were displaced, Baxter said. There were no injuries to any residents or firefighters, he said.
The cost of the damage was still to be determined Thursday, and the Kansas Fire Marshal’s office was investigating the cause and origin of the fire, Baxter said.
