One person was seriously injured in a car accident in the area of 23rd and Iowa streets Monday afternoon, Lawrence police Sgt. Amy Rhoads said via email.

Rhoads said that around 1 p.m. Monday, it was reported that a passenger vehicle pulled out of the Circle K parking lot traveling westbound to make a left turn. The vehicle then collided into a semitruck that was traveling northbound.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, Rhoads said.

Emergency radio traffic indicated that first responders had requested an air ambulance, but poor visibility from weather conditions prevented the helicopter from responding.

The investigation was still ongoing as of 3:45 p.m. Monday, Rhoads said.
