A Lawrence man has been charged with a child sex crime in connection with alleged activity in 2016.

Charles Ray Tingler Jr., 46, was charged Tuesday with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child — level 5 felonies — according to online court records. The charges allege that on June 7, 2016, Tingler possessed images that portrayed a child under 18 “shown or heard engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

In addition, he is facing a charge in a separate case for alleged interference with law enforcement at the time his warrant was served Monday.

Tingler’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 24, according to online court records. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held on $25,000 cash or surety bond, jail records show.
