A Lawrence teen was charged Tuesday with a sex crime against a child.

Cristopher Z. Moland, 18, was charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child younger than 14, according to court documents.

The document alleges that on June 4, Moland engaged in “lewd fondling or touching” of a child who was 10 years old at the time. The charge is an off-grid felony, meaning it is a severe offense for which punishment goes beyond the standard Kansas sentencing guidelines.

Monday evening, Moland was arrested on a warrant at his home, the Journal-World reported.

According to online court records, a judge on Tuesday appointed defense attorney Hatem Chahine to represent Moland and set bond at $25,000 cash or surety. His next court appearance is set for Sept. 24. Jail records indicate Moland was still in custody Tuesday evening.

The Journal-World requested Moland’s booking photo from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office but did not receive a response as to whether it would be released Tuesday.
