A Kansas City, Mo., man allegedly set up an armed robbery to steal cash and marijuana from a home in Baldwin City, according to the charges filed against him.
Kylan Raphael Newman, 21, was charged with multiple felonies this week in Douglas County District Court in connection with an incident alleged to have occurred on July 26 at an apartment in the 200 block of Washington Street in Baldwin City.
Newman’s charges are mid- to high-level felonies: aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
The charging document in his case alleges that Newman took “cash and/or marijuana” from an adult victim while armed with a handgun. It also alleges that he conspired to commit the robbery with another person or persons.
Online court records indicate that a warrant was issued for Newman’s arrest on Nov. 5. He was arrested and booked into the Johnson County Jail on Nov. 15, records from that jurisdiction show, then booked into the Douglas County Jail on Monday.
A judge set Newman’s bond at $50,000 cash or surety, online jail and court records indicate. As of Thursday morning, he remained in custody. His next court appearance is set for Dec. 3.
The charges did not name any alleged co-conspirators. The Journal-World has inquired with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office about whether prosecutors are considering charges against anyone else in connection with the alleged incident.
The Journal-World requested Newman’s booking photo from the Douglas County Jail on Thursday but did not immediately receive a response regarding whether it would be released.
