Two arrested in armed robbery in Lawrence; suspects reportedly tried to stab victim

A man and woman have been arrested in an armed robbery reported Sunday evening in Lawrence.

Police responded just after 6:15 p.m. to the 1800 block of West 25th Street, where the victim reported being attacked outside by two suspects who tried to stab him with a knife, Officer Shawn Gross said, in an email.

The suspects left the scene after stealing the victim’s backpack, which had been dropped during the physical altercation, Gross said.

The victim was not stabbed, but suffered minor injuries during the fight that didn’t require medical attention, Gross said.

Gross said the victim was acquainted with the suspects, who were were later located and arrested. He said the victim’s backpack was recovered.

Runita J. Bell, 44, of Lawrence, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of opiates and interfering with police, according to jail records. Robert L. Coleman, 25, of Lawrence, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and battery.

As of Monday morning, charges against them from the incident did not appear in Douglas County District Court records.
