Lawrence police plan DUI checkpoint

Lawrence police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint next week, on Thursday, at an undisclosed location in the Lawrence city limits.

The effort is meant to deter people impaired by alcohol or drugs from driving in the first place, as well as detect those who do drive under the influence, the department said, in a news release announcing the upcoming checkpoint.

“The goal of the checkpoint is to reduce the number of collisions that involve impaired drivers and to lower the injuries and deaths associated with these types of collisions,” the news release said.

The checkpoint is funded with a Kansas Department of Transportation, according to the release.
