Lawrence police investigate case of person shot in leg

Lawrence police were investigating after a person with a gunshot wound to the leg sought treatment at the hospital over the weekend.

About 10:45 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to Lawrence Memorial Hospital regarding a patient who came into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg, Officer Shawn Gross said Monday in an email to media.

Gross said the initial reported location was near 23rd and Iowa streets. However, he said the victim and a potential witness were both “uncooperative,” and after searching that area, police did not find any indication the shooting occurred there.

The injury was not life-threatening, Gross said. The investigation remained ongoing Monday.
