Police identify Lawrence woman, 24, killed in accident; investigation continues

Police have released the name of the woman who died after an accident on the night of Aug. 20.

Elizabeth Ann Allen, 24, of Lawrence, was riding her moped in the 2700 block of Haskell Avenue when a pickup truck hit her, police said.

Officers were called to the scene around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, after multiple calls saying that a pedestrian may have been hit by a vehicle, police said. Allen died as officers and paramedics were rendering aid.

In response to a Journal-World email asking whether any citations had been issued or arrests made in connection with the accident, Patrick Compton, a spokesman for Lawrence Police Department, said this week that the investigation was still ongoing.

According to an obituary published in the Journal-World, Allen was a mother of two daughters and was engaged to be married in 2021. She graduated a year early from Lawrence High School in 2013.

It describes Allen as “very exuberant, always smiling and one of the kindest people in the world if you were lucky enough to meet her.”

The obituary says Allen’s scooter, Electra, was a birthday gift this year.

“She died doing what she loved doing, feeling the freedom of wind in her face,” the obituary says.
