Lightning strike causes structure fire in Lawrence, displaces 8

Lightning struck a Lawrence home overnight, causing a fire that led to an estimated $60,000 in damage, according to a news release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.

LDCFM was called to a residence at 1420 Tennessee St. at 3:16 a.m. Saturday, according to the release. Firefighters arrived three minutes later to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

The home is a duplex rental, and eight people were displaced as a result of the fire, LDCFM Division Chief of Administration Tom Fagan said via email.
