Mississippi man arrested in Douglas County on suspicion of driving a stolen motorcycle, having brass knuckles
The Kansas Highway Patrol arrested a Mississippi man in Douglas County Sunday on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.
The patrol arrested 44-year-old John Wesley Ward, of Columbus, Miss., at 11 a.m. Sunday on Kansas Highway 10 near mile post 11, just south of Lawrence.
Trooper Joshua Flemming, a spokesman for the Kansas Highway Patrol, said the responding patrol officer pulled Ward over for a speeding violation and found the motorcycle he was riding was stolen from Tulsa, Okla. The officer also found brass knuckles, which were considered a weapon.
Ward was charged with felony possession of stolen property, operating a vehicle without insurance, criminal carry of a weapon, driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without registration. His bond was set at $2,275.
As of 3 p.m. Monday, Ward was not in Douglas County Jail custody.
