KU fans crowd Massachusetts Street to celebrate the Jayhawks' win over Villanova in the Final Four on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
Massachusetts Street will be closed to traffic at 6 a.m. Monday and remain closed the rest of the day to provide a pedestrian-friendly environment for the University of Kansas national championship men’s basketball game against North Carolina.
Mass. Street will be closed from Sixth Street to the south side of South Park to both moving and parked vehicles. Lawrence Police spokeswoman Amy Rhoads said the police department will make all efforts to inform owners of vehicles parked on Mass. Street that they must move their vehicles or be towed.
Rhoads said she didn’t know the exact time the street will be reopened but it would be in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The national championship game tips off at 8:20 p.m. Monday.
