Construction continues on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, on the new Costco store near Rock Chalk Park in northwest Lawrence.

Lawrence’s new Costco won’t be opening in full until the end of the month, but its gas station will be open for members starting next Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Costco announced the news in an email on Thursday. Of course, the gas station won’t be open to just anyone, as Costco’s goods and services are available to you only if you are a member of the wholesale club. Those who want to purchase a membership can do so either online at costco.com/f/-/join-costco or at 4821 W. Sixth St., Suite O, in the shopping center near Dillons at Sixth and Wakarusa.

Opening day for the store is Oct. 29, as the Journal-World has reported, and Costco has said doors will open at 8 a.m. that day. The store is just northwest of the intersection of Sixth Street and George Williams Way and is the largest retailer in the new Mercato shopping area.
