Costco has confirmed that its new store in Lawrence will be opening at the end of October, and those who want to get their membership have multiple ways to sign up.

Earlier this month, the Journal-World reported on rumors that Costco would open Oct. 29, and this week the wholesaler confirmed on its website that that would be the opening date. The store is just northwest of the intersection of Sixth Street and George Williams Way and is the largest retailer in the new Mercato shopping area.

None of Costco’s goods or services is available to you unless you are a member of the wholesale club. Those who want to purchase a membership can do so either online at costco.com/f/-/join-costco or at 4821 W. Sixth St., Suite O. That’s in the shopping center near Dillons at Sixth and Wakarusa. Costco’s website says that physical signup location will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Costco, which is famous for building stores quickly, will have been under construction for just under half a year. It received its city building permit for the 155,000-square-foot store on May 8, as the Journal-World reported. The store has also been hiring for a variety of positions; its website on Wednesday showed 27 positions that it was still trying to fill.
