DCCCA is inviting the community to an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new recovery-focused, transitional housing development for women and their children.

The event will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, at 3011 W. 31st St. The five duplex houses, offering 10 individual housing units, were built just east of the First Step treatment center at 3015 W. 31st St.

The event will feature food trucks, a resource fair and guided property tours of the new transitional housing community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 8:20 a.m. Attendees are invited to bring a household cleaning product as a housewarming donation.

As the Journal-World reported, the duplexes have one side as a two-bedroom, one-bath residence, and the other side is a two-bedroom, two-bath residence. The development cost for the housing project was around $4.2 million.

The duplexes were built by AU Construction, based in Lawrence. Within the new housing community, residents will have access to DCCCA services, including integrated treatment, educational pathways, employment support and child care.
