Construction equipment sits near the Clinton Parkway and K-10 intersection in southwest Lawrence.
Construction work for the South Lawrence Trafficway expansion project will close an additional ramp along K-10 next week, which will require a multi-year route change for some motorists looking to get to Clinton Lake State Park.
The Kansas Department of Transportation announced in a press release Friday the eastbound K-10 exit ramp to Clinton Parkway will close for construction starting on Tuesday, May 26. The ramp will remain closed until the entire SLT project is complete, according to KDOT.
KDOT said in the release traffic can used a marked detour along 6th Street and Wakarusa Drive to Clinton Parkway during the ramp’s closure. Clinton Lake State Park will also be accessible via Bob Billings Parkway/N. 1500 Road and the new E. 875 Road and E. 900 Road.
Construction on the approximately $171 million project, which is expanding the SLT from a two-lane road to a four-lane road with a median, has led to other closures in recent months. Two exit ramps on K-10 — the U.S. 40/Sixth Street ramp onto eastbound K-10 and the eastbound K-10 exit ramp to Bob Billings Parkway — have been closed since February, as the Journal-World reported.
Kate Craft, a spokesperson for KDOT, told the Journal-World via email those ramps will remain closed “until new eastbound lanes are completed” between U.S. 40/6th Street and Clinton Parkway. That construction is expected to be completed in late June or early July, according to Craft. Once that happens, traffic would shift onto the new roadway and those ramps will open.
The overall SLT expansion project is still on track to finish in late 2028, according to KDOT officials.
