The Jungle House plant shop, 6 E. Seventh St., is closing for good at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The Jungle House plant store in downtown Lawrence is closing for good today, and a crowd has turned out to make final purchases and wish the staff well.
On a social media post owners Jhami and Rachel Guffey said the store would be open until 6 p.m. today.
They encouraged shoppers to use up their gift cards and to shop for plants and other merchandise at 50% off.
The Guffeys said in the post that for nearly a decade “we have been privileged to live our dream of building a team. From day one, we wanted to build a community of like minded folks who enjoy where they work and the people surrounding them. We feel we have achieved our dream!”
They said they had been “fighting to keep this dream alive for quite some time. Unfortunately we know now is the time to say goodbye.”
Squishington’s, the candy store owned by the Guffeys that’s right around the corner at Seventh and Massachusetts streets, also will be closing down today.
“We will be open 11-6 today. Come use your gift cards, grab a deal. We will have some of our decor available as well,” a social media post said.
As the Journal-World reported, Squishington’s opened in the old Liberty Hall video rental space at the end of 2023. The store featured bulk candies as well as chocolates, international sweets and old-timey treats.
The Guffeys are retail veterans, having met while working at The Toy Store in downtown Lawrence; they then went on to open the Jungle House on Delaware Street in East Lawrence before moving the shop to the downtown locale that formerly housed The Raven Book Store at 6 E. Seventh St.
