The Lawrence Central Rotary announced its annual community bike ride that welcomes bikers of all ages will take place Saturday.

The Lawrence Community Bike Ride will return to the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum Shelter, 5100 W. 27th St. on Saturday, July 18. The event features four ride options that vary in distance from 4 miles to 12 miles, which provides options for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

The bike ride, which is now in its 16th year, is not just about cycling but about “bringing the community together,” according to Steve Lane, one of the event organizers. Over the years, Lane said it has brought hundreds of Lawrence residents together to connect with neighbors and promote an active lifestyle.

One of the aims of the event is to promote bike safety, Lane said, and the organizers give away helmets and bright colored shirts for people to wear while riding. In addition to the rides, Lane said there are other activities at the event, including a bounce house and a “training wheel takeoff station” where teams of experts can help remove the training wheels for kids who use them.

The event is free and open to the public. The event will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. All four bike rides will start at 9 a.m. For more information, you can visit the Lawrence Community bike ride’s website.
