A 166,000-square-foot Costco store in Lawrence now has a projected opening for fall 2026, according to a press release from a Kansas City-based real estate firm.

The release from LANE4 Property Group said the store’s opening will be “just in time for Thanksgiving,” and construction is currently underway.

As the Journal-World reported, the store will be located on approximately 22.6 acres within an area zoned for retail, restaurant and commercial uses at the northeast corner of 6th Street and Highway 10. The overall development is called Mercato. The new store will have an on-site gas station with 24 pumps, tire center, bakery, produce, floral, and other typical Costco amenities.

“We’re thrilled to help bring Costo to Lawrence and see this as a major destination anchor that draws shoppers from across Douglas County and Lawrence’s surrounding communities,” Becca Koester, representative of the ownership group, K-10/40 Development, LC, said in the release. “The Lawrence store will be Costco’s most western store in Kansas along the I-70 corridor.”

The Lawrence location is going to be the fifth store in the broader Kansas City-area, joining existing locations in Lenexa, Lee’s Summit and two in Kansas City, Missouri.
