The national nonprofit organization Dream Flights will be in Douglas County to offer flights to area veterans as part of its mission to honor military veterans and seniors with the adventure of flying in a Boeing Stearman biplane.

The biplane is a restored World War II-era plane that was used to train aviators. Dream Flights are meant to inspire veterans to share their stories about their service and lives.

The flights in Lawrence on Thursday will include veterans from Meadowlark Estates Gracious Retirement Living and through the VFW.

As guests of the VFW, Sheriff Jay Armbrister and Undersheriff Stacy Simmons are scheduled to take part in flights as well to support Dream Flights and Douglas County area veterans.
