Haskell to host Resilience Powwow in April

A powwow that was postponed at Haskell Indian Nations University shortly after mass layoffs at the university last month is now scheduled to take place on April 5.

The event once known as the 2025 Spring Welcome Back Powwow has been renamed the 2025 Spring Resilience Powwow in the wake of the Trump administration firings that created widespread disruption on campus. Some of the nearly 40 people who were fired — approximately a quarter of all employees on campus — have since been reinstated, as the Journal-World has reported, but the community has remained in some turmoil over the future of Haskell.

The powwow will be at the Coffin Sports Complex on the Haskell campus. Grand entry is scheduled for 6 p.m. The event will feature Native American dancing, drum groups, singers and a variety of contests. It will also include a giveaway for spring 2025 Haskell students.

The powwow, a drug- and alcohol-free event, is free and open to the public.
