A community meeting for Haskell Indian Nations University will take place Friday to provide additional information on how to support the university since the mass layoffs three weeks ago.
Several staff, students and community members from the Haskell Foundation, an organization designed to fulfill the unmet needs of Native Americans through direct support, research and partnerships, will hold a community gathering at 5:30 p.m. at Haskell Auditorium, 155 E. Indian Ave.
As the Journal-World reported, a large gathering at First Presbyterian Church on Feb. 21 provided information to the public on Haskell’s situation after dozens of employees were fired the week prior as part of the Trump administration’s effort to shrink the federal government.
Since the mass layoffs at Haskell, a leadership team of community members, The Friends of Haskell Family, has been created to help support the university and the Haskell Foundation. The team has initiated a newsletter that will keep people informed if they are interested in advocacy for the university. Those interested in receiving the newsletter can sign up by sending your name and email address to lkshaskellfriends@gmail.com.
The names and emails of those at the Feb. 21 meeting have been put on the email list to receive the updates.
