Lawrence Transit will be canceling its on-demand ride-sharing service this weekend because of winter weather in the forecast, and it may prioritize certain bus routes and shut down others on Saturday depending on weather conditions, according to a news release on Friday.

The release said that Lawrence Transit On Demand, which provides ride-sharing services using transit vehicles within city limits, will be suspended starting at 8 p.m. Saturday and will remain unavailable on Sunday. Service is expected to resume at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Fixed-route bus service is planned to begin running as usual on Saturday, the release said. However, if weather conditions begins to affect service, Lawrence Transit will implement a priority route system, under which routes 1 through 7 will be prioritized and other routes will be canceled as needed. The transit system will post updates about delays and cancellations on its website, lawrencetransit.org, and its Facebook page.

As usual, fixed-route bus service will not operate on Sunday. On Monday, service is expected to resume, but the release said it might have a late start. The release also said that conditions on the University of Kansas campus may cause reroutes on Monday.

Users of the transit system’s paratransit service are encouraged to cancel any nonpriority trips on Saturday; same-day booking for paratransit will not be available.
