The Sustainability Action Network, the City of Lawrence and Lawrence Transit will host an Electric Vehicle Showcase in South Park in Lawrence on Oct. 6.

The event, which will have vehicles on the portion of Massachusetts Street that runs through South Park, will feature a variety of different electric vehicles, including e-bikes and an electric bus from Lawrence Transit. Other models of electric vehicles like the Tesla Cybertruck, Fisker Ocean, electric Ford pickup trucks and Hyundai Ioniq-6 will be on display.

The event will also feature displays by at least three local solar companies, and the University of Kansas Engineering School will sponsor a display of EV battery technology.

The Lawrence showcase event is one of more than 130 events organized by the Sustainability Action Network to celebrate National Drive Electric Week, which runs from Sept. 27 to Oct. 6.

Part of the goal of the event is to highlight the ways that electric vehicles can reduce petroleum use and climate heating emissions.

Owners of electric vehicles can sign up online to showcase their cars and share their experiences with the public.

The portion of Massachusetts Street that runs through South Park will be closed to traffic the day of the event. The event will from from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 6.
