The Douglas County Courthouse’s elevator is back in commission after being out of service since late September.

The county announced the news in a social media post Friday afternoon. The elevator repair was a last-minute addition to the Douglas County Commission’s agenda at its meeting on Sept. 21, 2022, a week after the elevator stopped working.

At the time, county staff told commissioners it’d take more than 12 weeks to get the elevator repaired. But the county said Friday that it took some additional time due to a number of other repairs that needed to be done at the same time.

A new main jack had to be custom-made to replace the 50-year-old original that failed in September. In addition, the 40-foot-deep “jack hole” in the ground under the historic courthouse building unexpectedly collapsed during the process of removing the old jack, so the hole also had to be re-drilled.
