FRIDAY

• The Spring Book Sale is this weekend at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. Books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks are all priced at $2 or less. See https://lplks.org/book-sales/ for pricing and category lists. Shoppers are welcome 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Enter on the Kentucky Street side of the library.

• Volunteers from Hawks for Health will be available to help with rent and utility assistance applications. Walk-ins are welcome Friday, noon-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m., in Study Room 5 at the Lawrence Public Library. Check lawrence.bibliocommons.com for additional dates and times.

• Lawrence Ballet Theatre’s “Emergence,” featuring contemporary and classical dance styles, is slated for 7 p.m. Friday with a repeat performance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. See ticket details at lawrenceartscenter.org.

• It’s the final weekend for Theatre Lawrence’s production of “Silent Sky,” which is based on the story of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. Ticket information for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows is available at theatrelawrence.com.

• KU Theatre & Dance’s performances of the Tony-award winning “Cabaret” are selling out quickly. Evening and matinee performances continue this weekend and April 25-30 at Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive. See kutheatre.com/cabaret for tickets.

SATURDAY

• The public is invited to meet with local authors and artists to celebrate connections to nature and community at the Wakarusa Wetlands. The gathering will begin at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Perimeter Road and Barker Avenue, where the group will walk to the Medicine Wheel Earthwork south of the Haskell campus buildings (a Land Rover will be available for those needing assistance) to attend a land recognition with Daniel Wildcat. • Guitar players can participate in Earth Day by bringing their instrument to Supersonic Music, 1029 Massachusetts St., for an all-day restring and recycle event. Sponsored by Supersonic and D’Addario, the 9 a.m.-7 p.m. event offers free string removal/replacement and a free set of strings for one six-string guitar per customer. Bring along old strings you need to recycle.

• The Ninth Annual Kansas River Cleanup is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m., as Friends of the Kaw and partners invite the public to assist with riverbank cleanup below the Bowersock Dam (Second and Locust streets). • Cleanup Day is also happening at Clinton Lake, where volunteers are invited to meet at Overlook Shelter 1, 801 North 1402 Road, for a 9 a.m.-1 p.m. project and picnic. Woodsy Owl is scheduled to make an appearance. Please RSVP on social media or at 785-843-7665.

• Prairie Park Nature Center is also holding a free Earth Day event, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. It will feature games, giveaways, a puppet show, three educational programs and a “seed bomb catapult.” Join the fun at 2730 Harper St.

• Earth Day activities are happening noon-4 p.m. at the Kansas Geological Survey, 1930 Constant Ave. Bring the family for this free event including seismic wave creation, fun with drone footage, building an aquifer and much more.

• The Sunrise Project, 1501 Learnard Ave., is holding its Plant Sale Fundraiser, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with a repeat sale on Saturday, April 29. Organic transplants and native flowers will be available at $5 per plant (buy 10 plants, get one free). Proceeds support Sunrise’s porch pantry, community garden and other projects.

• Lawrence Earth Day Fair is set for 1-3 p.m. at South Park. Bring one recyclable aluminum can to donate, and join in family-friendly activities, including seed giveaways, water demonstrations, solar ovens, bird facts, sustainability information and much more. • Come to the Art Cart at the Spencer Museum of Art to weave a colorful food covering from reusable plastic bags and wire. The drop-in session is from 1 to 4 p.m., 1301 Mississippi St.

• Planet-friendly celebrations continue from 1 to 4 p.m. with planting and seeding native wildflowers and grasses, learning about ecosystems, crafts and more at Prairie Park, 2811 Kensington Road; see https://www.grasslandheritage.org/prairiepark for details.

• One Hundred Good Women presents its annual clothing exchange at Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. Donations will be accepted until 1:30 p.m.; shoppers are welcome 1-4 p.m. All items are priced at $1.

• Learn to repair and reuse your old objects and materials at Repair Studio, 2-4 p.m. Bring your broken items and torn fabrics to the Lawrence Public Library auditorium and meet with a “repair mentor” for troubleshooting and tinkering.

• Celebrated children’s musician Laurie Berkner will perform at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive, at 3 p.m. Berkner, a longtime performer on Nick Jr., Sprout and Universal Kids, has written music and lyrics for three off-Broadway children’s musicals as well as for several albums. • “Verbal Transformations” at the Lawrence Arts Center’s 10th & Mass Studios presents poetry, spoken-word and open-mic readings and performances. The all-ages event includes a poetry fair from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and performances from 4 to 8 p.m. See lawrenceartscenter.org for a list of performers and an open-mic sign-up. A $10 donation is suggested at the door.

• Earth Day wraps up with the Lawrence Community Orchestra’s “A Walk in the Woods” concert at 7:30 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vermont St. The orchestra will present spring-themed music by Vivaldi, Beethoven, Stephen Sondheim and Jean Sibelius. SUNDAY

• A Pop Up Science event is slated from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the KU Natural History Museum, 1345 Jayhawk Blvd. All ages are welcome to come learn about DNA through a variety of projects and crafts.

• Interested in helping with cleanup at Hidden Valley Camp? Volunteers wanting to assist with trail maintenance, vegetation removal, tree planting and more are invited to RSVP for Sunday’s work day, 1-4 p.m. (rain date April 30).
