The Burroughs Creek Trail is shown heading south from its intersection with East 15th Street, shortly before sunset on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018.

An event featuring food, drink and music will be held in East Lawrence this week to draw attention to area organizations that promote outdoor activities and community building.

Free State Brewing Co. will be hosting Trails that Connect Us from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the brewery’s East Lawrence production plant at 1927 Moodie Road. The brewery’s plant is along the Burroughs Creek Trail that runs through parts of eastern and southern Lawrence.

The event is expected to have about two dozen community organizations, such as Friends of the Kaw, Jayhawk Audubon, Monarch Watch, Prairie Park Nature Center, the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club, the Lawrence Arts Center and many others.

In addition to the informational material from the organizations, the event also will include food, beer and music offerings, and Free State Brewing Co. will be hosting an open house of its brewery operations. Much of the event is scheduled to happen along the Burroughs Creek Trail, and organizers are offering valet bike parking to encourage people to cycle to the event.
